If your first response is "did what?", then you are probably not from Washington. Doing the Puyallup (pyoo-al-up) refers to going to the Western Washington State Fair in Puyallup, Washington, hence "The Puyallup". Opening day was Friday and admission was free until noon. As someone once said, "...cheap is good but free is better!" Well, a two hour drive and another two hours of sitting in a traffic jam created by "free" got us through the gate with about ten minutes to spare! We asked ourselves once again, "....why are we doing this?" Oh yeah, free!
The fair is a great place to people watch, eat fair delicacies like elephant ears, scones, curly fries, corn dogs and my favorite, roasted sweet corn slathered in butter! They had a Wine Garden where they offered tastings of many of the wines grown in Washington. It was a warm day so we went pretty easy on the wine but did visit a local wine shop after we left the fair. We picked up several bottles of Wahington wines that aren't sold in many places outside of the state. We will have our own wine tasting this winter in Arizona with friends and "Wine from Home". Hopefully we won't have to endure Dandelion Wine again! While we were perusing the many shelves of wine bottles, a wedding party came into the wine shop for a photo opportunity for the Bride & Groom's album which wasn't yet completed! They were a great looking group and we thought they all looked like they were very happy and having a great time.
This morning we fired up the motor home for the first time in a couple of months. Thankfully, everything seemed to work. We left Ned & Suzi and the rest of the folks at Robin Hood Village behind but feel like we made some great friends this summer and hope to pass that way again.
We will head for the Wahington Coast on Thursday and turn south heading for The Valley of the Sun
