A Canadian icon coming soon to a town near you!

In Canada they love their hockey heroes, no, they actually idolize them. When a hockey great is responsible for Canada's largest restaurant chain you have a nationwide sensation. Tim's, Timmy's, Tim Horton's, no matter how it is called, it is the same place. A donut shop that turned into a nationwide bonanza.

Tim Horton was a hockey player for 24 years, playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New York Rangers, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Buffalo Sabres. He was born Myles Gilbert Horton in 1930 but went by the nickname Tim. He was a defence man and was always cool when under pressure. He was also strong and used his strength to great advantage when necessary.

In 1964 Tim co-founded Canada's iconic coffee shop and by 1967 it had grown into a multi million dollar business. In 1974 when Tim died in a tragic auto accident on his way home after a game, there were 40 Tim Horton franchise stores. Today there are about 2700 stores in Canada and almost 600 in the US, mostly from Michigan and Ohio eastward. Look out Starbucks, Tim's has a pretty good cup of coffee at a reasonable price. Their donuts are excellent and we sure liked the sandwiches we had.

Tim was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1977, three years after his death. His memory lives on.
