It takes a lot of work to close up one wobble box and move into another! Finally, everything seemed to come together and we bade farewell to The Wrinkle Ranch and headed out onto the open highway at 10:30 AM. We had planned an earlier departure but a last minute roof inspection revealed some potential leak spots and we had to get them repaired. Right now our shed is stuffed with all our outside furniture, bikes, barbecue, propane heater, you name it. At least it all appears to be safe and may stay clean until we return. So far the motor home is working well and the traffic has been light and that is always welcome. The temperatures in the Phoenix area are predicted to be above 100 degrees so we got away just in time.
Tonight we have stopped at the Elks Lodge in Willcox, Arizona. The Elks have a large level RV park and water and electricity and that floats our boat. Willcox is close to the Chiricahua Mountains which are home to the Chiricahua Apaches. Some of the more famous Apaches were Cochise and Geronimo. We have been through the Chiricahuas previously and they have amazing rock formations and are a must see when you visit this area. Legend has it that when Cochise died he was buried in his stronghold in the mountains and all traces of his burial site were eradicated by running horse herds through the area. His burial site has never been found.
We stopped today at a rest area about 17 miles from Willcox in Texas Canyon. When we exited the motor home we were greeted by a sign warning us of the dangers of snakes and poisonous insects. If the heat in Arizona doesn't get you, the critters will! This particular rest area has some great large granite rock formations. The best views are from I-10 as you approach the rock formations.
Tomorrow we will enter New Mexico and turn north east. Our destination is Michigan so Don can attend his 50th high school reunion. As one friend said to Don before we departed, "...you know there are just going to be a lot of old geezers there!" This old geezer can relate to that!
