Yesterday we crossed from New Mexico into Colorado and reached the highest elevation so far on this trip, approximately 7840 feet. Our Workhorse did the job for us although it will be called on for more arduous tasks later when we really get high in the Rockies. We currently are in Walsenburg, CO. Anne wanted to visit an area she lived in briefly in another life. We unhooked the toad and spent the day exploring in our Wrangler, driving up into the hills to a ski lodge where we saw an elk herd grazing on one of the runs. Colorado is beautiful BUT we found some mosquitoes this evening while hitching up the Jeep for tomorrow's departure. There are two magnificent peaks near here, The Spanish Peaks. We will see many mountains during our time in Colorado!
We've been told that Arizona has the lowest priced gas in the nation but since we left we have found gas to be less than in Gold Canyon. Gas was $3.89 when we left and our last fill up here in Colorado was $3.73. Some stations here in Colorado are charging $4.09 but so far we have been able to avoid them.
